What is the Scan Studio Pro?
The Scan Studio Pro is a professional-grade motion picture film scanner designed to deliver exceptional 4096 × 3000, 12-bit scans of 8mm, Super 8, 16mm, and 35mm film. Built entirely in-house in the USA, it combines precision engineering with a distinctive furniture-grade maple plywood body, a professional instrument that's as well-crafted as the work it's built to do.
What is the difference between the Complete System and Optics Ready versions?
The Complete System includes a matched camera and lens, fully configured and factory-calibrated — attach the camera, install the software, and you're ready to scan. The Optics Ready version includes the complete scanner and camera system but does not include a lens. It is designed for professionals who prefer to supply their own optics — whether for a specific film format, a particular depth of field requirement, or an existing lens investment. A premium all-format lens covers 8mm, Super 8, 16mm, and 35mm in a single setup, while a format-specific lens can be a more economical choice for operators focused on one format. Contact us before ordering and we can recommend the right lens for your workflow and budget. Both versions deliver the same performance, build quality, and reliability. The only difference is whether the lens is included.
Which option should I choose?
For most users the Complete System is the recommended choice. It includes a matched camera and lens, factory-calibrated and ready to go — no guesswork on lens compatibility, no additional sourcing required. The Optics Ready version is designed for experienced users who prefer to supply their own lens or require a specific optical configuration. It delivers identical performance and build quality while allowing greater flexibility in your optical setup. If you're considering the Optics Ready version, we recommend contacting us before ordering to confirm lens compatibility with your intended workflow.
