Color & Tone:

A complete set of color correction and grading tools designed for restoration work — recovering faded color, correcting white balance, and making precise tonal adjustments. Every control is designed for accuracy and repeatability, not creative looks.

White Balance:
Corrects color temperature and tint to restore natural, neutral color. Includes a one-click color picker — click any area in the frame that should be neutral white or gray and white balance is set automatically. No guesswork required.

Color Restore:
Recovers faded, washed-out, or desaturated color

common in aged film stock and magnetic tape.

Rebuilds color saturation and vibrancy without

oversaturating or introducing false color. Designed

specifically for the color degradation patterns of

archival footage.

Color Grading:
Full color grading controls with interactive color

wheels for shadows, midtones, and highlights. Adjust

hue, saturation, and luminance independently across

Sharpening:

Faithful monochrome handling for black and white film and footage. Not a simple desaturation filter — preserves the full tonal range and character of genuine black and white sources, maintaining shadow depth and highlight detail that a basic desaturation would crush or blow out.

AI Enhancement:

The next generation of restoration tools — not traditional filters, but neural network models trained on millions of images to intelligently enhance detail beyond what older tools can achieve. These run on your NVIDIA GPU and are designed to enhance the original, not reinvent it.

AI Upscaling (Real-ESRGAN):

Increases resolution using a neural network trained specifically on degraded and low-resolution footage. Unlike traditional upscaling which simply interpolates pixels, Real-ESRGAN generates convincing texture, edges, and clarity based on patterns learned from millions of training images — producing sharper, more natural results than basic upscaling alone. Available at fixed, predictable scale factors so output resolution is always exact. Best for: low-resolution scans, 8mm and Super 8 transfers, VHS captures, and any source where the original resolution is the limiting factor.

AI Frame Interpolation (RIFE):
Generates smooth intermediate frames between existing frames using a neural network trained on motion prediction. The result is fluid, natural-looking motion — particularly effective for film scanned at 16 or 18fps that needs to be delivered at 24 or 30fps. Unlike traditional motion-compensated interpolation, RIFE understands scene content and handles fast motion, panning, and scene changes more accurately. Includes scene change detection to prevent blending across cuts.

Best for: film transfers with low original frame rates, slow-motion conversion, and any footage where motion judder is noticeable.

A Note On Results:
AI Enhancement gets the most out of your footage — but it generates plausible detail based on patterns, not recovered information. It can't reconstruct detail that was never captured in the original recording. The better your source material, the better your results.

Stabilization:

Film and video transfer footage is uniquely prone to instability — gate weave, sprocket wear, projector vibration, and physical warping all introduce motion that wasn't in the original scene. MSS Media Lab includes stabilization tools designed specifically for transfer work, not generic camera shake.

Sprocket-Hole Stabilization:
The most accurate stabilization method available for film

transfer footage. Instead of analyzing picture content, it

locks directly onto the sprocket holes in the film frame —

the fixed reference points that define where each frame

should sit. The result is rock-solid stability regardless of

how degraded or low-contrast the image content is.

Works with 8mm, Super 8, 16mm, and 35mm formats.

Includes an interactive marker system — place the

sprocket markers on your footage and the software

tracks them through the entire clip. This is the same principle used in professional film restoration facilities, now available in a desktop application.

Best for:

Any film transfer where gate weave, sprocket wear, or projector vibration is visible. Especially effective on Super 8 and 8mm where sprocket holes are a consistent reference regardless of image quality.

Stabilize (Motion-Based):
Content-aware stabilization that analyzes the picture itself to detect and correct unwanted camera movement. Effective for footage where sprocket-hole stabilization is not applicable — VHS transfers, magnetic tape captures, and digitized video sources. Best for: VHS, Hi8, and other magnetic tape sources where physical film sprocket holes are not present.

A focused set of cleanup tools built for real archival footage — film grain, magnetic tape noise, interlacing artifacts, and physical damage. Every tool is designed to remove what doesn't belong without touching what does.

Dust & Scratch Removal:

Detects and removes dust spots, scratches, and surface damage common to aged film stock. Cleans up physical defects frame by frame without smearing detail in surrounding areas.

Denoise:
Reduces grain and sensor noise using advanced noise

profiling. Samples your footage to target the specific
